reed bunting

The Reed Bunting, once common in the countryside particularly near water and reed beds, has become much rarer in recent years. It can still be found in the remote areas of wet lowland Britain and on many of the wildlife reserves where reed beds are present. It will visit country gardens close to these areas and joins other buntings and finches in foraging flocks during the winter.

They are predominantly insectivorous during the breeding season but turn to feeding off the ground during the winter. Offering Seed Mixtures such as Bill’s bird food recipes’ Really Wild Bird Food and a little Mealworm Crumble Mix plus Fruit and Nut Crumble sprinkled on the ground during hard weather will greatly help their survival.
